Illustration: Karin Rönmark creates fantasy worlds fit for wallpaper

Date

Whenever I write about illustrators who create perfectly repeating patterns and scenes I’m reminded about that book The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, about a woman who finds herself trapped in a bedroom papered with intricate floral patterns, and starts to believe she’s living in the jungle depicted on the walls.

Karin Rönmark’s illustration is wallpaper-worthy, there’s no doubt about that, but it certainly won’t have you entertaining anything but daydreams about scaling the trees and flowers in her work. It’s fairytale-like in its grasp of the fantasy and make believe, with twisting vines, fallen fruits and flowers in forests. We wouldn’t half mind falling asleep cocooned in her creations.
