Katja Schwalenberg’s Etwas Besseres Als den Tod Findest du Überall (roughly translated as You Can Find Something Better Than Death Everywhere, thank you GCSE German) tells the heartwarming tale of a group of melancholy creatures wrestling with suicidal tendencies. Each spread reveals the morbid fantasy of a different animal – a donkey hangs himself in a tree while a chicken drowns herself in a mug, and a poor cat obsesses over becoming a scarf. Beautifully drawn and hilariously paced, this is a life-affirming little piece of graphic brilliance. Needless to say the rest of her portfolio is well worth a browse.
