Product Design: Illustrator Kaye Blegvad creates stunning jewellery too
So many beautiful things we don’t know where to begin. The new collection of jewellery from “illustrator, designer and general maker-of-things” Kaye Blegvad is stunning. Adorning necks with diving gulls or staring eyes, fingers with strands of laurel, posies or moonstones and wrists with tiny, tiny hands, they are beyond wonderful and we want them all.
A stint in New York illustrating for The New York Times was where it all began. The different districts and curiosities Kaye gathered passing through them lifted her illustration off the page to become things to be “used or worn or just be a bit unexpected.” It is “narrative jewellery” taking inspiration from ancient artefacts, ritual, weaponry and the natural world. And being hand made, there is an entire story just in the craft.
