Charming, colour-soaked paintings on aluminium from Keer Tanchak

Date
2 April 2012

“Plain efficiency and complete frivolity” are Keer Tanchak’s primary motivations when creating these Rococo lovelies. Painted on aluminium and shaped to suit their subject, Keer’s romantic figures inhabit colourful dreamlike landscapes, not totally unlike the myths-reinterpret and vignettes of the 18th Century painters she takes her cues from. The style is superficially delightful, making no socio-political statement per se, but drawing parallels between the opulence and pursuit of indoor leisure of revolutionary France to present day (i.e. Paris Hilton).
