An eye-poppingly insane Slovenian hair salon from the Kitsch Nitsch design duo

People want different tinges from a haircut experience, over and above the fewer follicle fundamentals. I am a big fan of my barber because he’s quick and quiet, no small talk, no gaffing, in, chop, out (email me if you what his name). But I understand there are others who look for a little more atmosphere, for whom the choice of stylist is far more involved than mine. And so to Slovenia, where wonderfully-named duo Kitsch-Nitsch have overseen the interior decoration for the new YMS salon, a trendy offshoot of the Mič Styling chain. It’s an immersive wonderland of colour and vibrancy and I imagine will become quiet the destination for the hipster Slovene to be seen.

As they explain on their site: “Seven different custom made mirrors were designed to keep things as wild as possible, a sofa and a coffee-table was made to give the waiting area a bit of flair and every wall got covered in cut hair inspired textures.”

A romp through their portfolio also reveals the excellent interior they did for the Ljubljana Puppet Theatre and reveals maybe my favourite ever About section on a website which is well worth a read…

“Kitsch Nitsch are two wondering souls trapped in the middle of nowhere. We are aspiring commercials sluts, but since money is tight right now, we have to do with being artists. We dabble in recent retro, which is still a hell of a lot better than the present and we are genuinely afraid of the future.

“We believe design is taken too seriously, life is taken too seriously and styling is not taken seriously enough. We are old, but look young, straight, but look gay, married and have sons, but none of that was ever planned. Being superficial, as we are, we love all things neon and chrome.”
