Kristen Liu-Wong’s wild fluoro illustrations of empowered women

Date
24 June 2016

We first spotted Los Angeles-based Kristen Liu-Wong’s illustrations in Lenny Letter, where she’s recently had a handful of commissions featured in the newsletter aimed at young women. Depicting fierce, strong, independent females in bright, fluorescent hues, Kristen’s illustrations look as though they’re tapestries for the modern age: full of contemporary references and intricate details that fill the space.

There’s a touch of the erotic fantasy in Kristen’s illustrations as her characters interact seductively with each other and the various animals around them. Only confident females feature in her work, all with tortilla-shaped boobs and slithering snake-like tongues navigating their 2D world by wrestling, hunting animals, breaking technology and of course getting a little bit frisky. Kristen’s style is a refreshing change from the “cutesy” work sometimes relied upon to illustrate editorial about women.
