Studio Large push the boundaries with their experimental design
A trip to French/Belgian design studio Large’s website might convince you that here are a group of four guys just having a good time with pretty colours and pictures – there’s such an enormous variety of material displayed in a fairly erratic fashion. But there’s more to it than that. Much more in fact.
A huge amount of Large’s output is experimental typography for the likes German big-timers Bureau Mirko Borsche and custom fonts for large-scale French media magazines. Serious stuff; but still not the whole story. They’re also pretty talented at art directing fashion look books, producing limited edition publications that explore design theory in new and exciting ways and creating heaps of great digital illustrations. If you still don’t believe these guys are serious then check out the folder of type specimens they’ve lovingly photographed and a snippet of their illustration work, then ask yourself how many studios you know that are producing work with such variety…
