Leah Beach: Waiting

Date
19 October 2011

Using Alzheimer’s disease as the basis of a photographic project is a brave move. The condition affects so many directly or indirectly that it’s impossible to know how it will be received – can simple photography do justice to such a bewilderingly complex condition? Despite these challenges, Leah Beach has created Waiting, an ongoing body of work that focuses her lens on Alzheimer’s patients in assisted living accommodation, tackling the subject with a technical finesse and sensitivity that is truly admirable. They may not brighten up your day but Leah’s images deserve recognition for dealing so unflinchingly with a truly harrowing subject.
