Leon Mark’s stylised look at today’s subcultures for Re-Edition magazine

Date
21 August 2015

For the second issue of the photography-focused magazine Re-Edition, which combines rarely seen images from various archives with new and up-to-the-minute photo work, London-based photographer Leon Mark teamed up with Tara St Hill, a stylist best known for her work with Corinne Day. Together they cast a highly stylised series looking at today’s subcultures, shot all over London. Fashion almost seems to meet anthropology in the images, which feel deliberately staged and yet flirt with spontaneity. “We wanted to photograph a diverse range of subcultures today but shoot them almost in a timeless way,” Leon explains. The results carry a slightly more theatrical take on the undone, 90s air of Corinne Day whilst still feeling hard to place in time.
