Everything sounds better in French so I’m going to go ahead and refer to this highly stylised filmic gem as the rightful Poulet aux Prunes. Both directed by and originally a graphic novel from Marjane ‘Persepolis’ Satrapi, Poulet follows a Fellini-slash-Jean-Pierre Jeunet-via-Wes Anderson route through the final eight days of its protagonist’s life. Whimsical? Yes actually. And with a cast that includes the likes of Jamel Debbouze, Isabella Rossellini and Mathieu Amalric as the fated violin playing lead, I’m sold.
