Art: Sculptural arches by LIKEarchitects resemble Microsoft Paint squiggles

Date

It’s fair to say that we’re drawn to the weirder end of the architecture spectrum (giraffes sticking out of buildings and the like) so when I came across this installation in the grounds of the Portuguese presidential museum, my boat was well and truly floated. Super serious architecture, maybe not, but these red arches look for all the world like Microsoft Paint squiggles over photographs and that for me can only be a plus.

They’re the brainchild of young Porto-based studio LIKEarchitects who were commissioned to create a piece for the royal gardens in Lisbon over December and January. It was the first time these they had been opened up to the public and so these sculptures added a really playful element to these rather grand surroundings. A further nose around LIKE’s site shows they have a portfolio of impressive work and so we’ll be keeping our beady eyes on them in the future.
