Suburban America captured with abstract flair by Lisa Gonzalez

Date
6 March 2013

Parsons graduate Lisa Gonzalez has a gift for capturing American suburbia without falling into the trap of any dangerous clichés. Homes, a series of photographs that captures the gabled rooftops of whitewashed and redbrick suburban dwellings, immediately engenders a feeling of familiarity with an environment we know only too well, without depicting it in minute detail. By leaving the viewer to fill in the remainder of the scene themselves, Lisa’s images offer an inherently personal experience, free from any agenda the artist might have herself.
