Louise Despont

Louise Despont is a preternaturally talented illustrator who appropriates the pages of antique ledger books to create the canvases for her beautiful large scale drawings. Influenced by the patterns she’s found throughout her travels in south east Asia, her work plays with pleasing symmetry and dizzying figurations to produce something that’s part alchemist’s notebook and part circus-dwelling fortune teller’s ouija board. Look deep enough and you’ll get completely lost in these mesmerising images–- amongst Despont’s thousands of pencil strokes you’ll even find the little numbers left behind by the original ledgers’ owners. Simply stunning.
