Luke Archer’s confident and dynamic design work for a Lausanne art space
Graphic designer Luke Archer co-runs Harpe 45, a non-profit contemporary art space in Lausanne, Switzerland for which he designs the varied and responsive print collateral. The Risograph-printed posters and flyers have a texture to them that reflects Luke’s background in lithography – using brush marks and half-tones to confidently compose material with a bold use of negative space. The references run from 80s clip art and advertising through to more sober, high art imagery, all tied together by Luke’s typeface Terrazzo, a sans serif angular delight. The publication for their exhibition Terrific Fun established “an exhibition space beyond the physical one”, Luke says. “The works of each artist are mixed together… [with] illustrations by Jérémy Piningre who we asked to reinterpret the work in a comic book world.”
As well as his work with Harpe 45 Luke has recently worked with ECAL, and is currently teaching interactive design at Yale.
