Artists have spent millennia trying to deny the parameters of reality by painting three ( and sometimes four) dimensional images onto two-dimensional surfaces, and we’ve made some pretty good progress. Then along comes an up-start like Matthias Weischer and everything gets all muddled up. Naw just kidding, man. We love what you’re doing. His self-described “illusory experiments” are paintings which blend flatness and depth to slightly jarring effect, but there’s enough of a candied colour palette and lush deco interiors to make them easy on the eye, even if there’s something a bit fishy going on…
