Mind-bending work from Russian illustrator Andrey Kasay

Date
15 March 2016

Russian illustrator Andrey Kasay aka Flakonkishochki creates some particularly surreal, sometimes rude work. It could be a penis-patterned shirt, or stack of gymnasts – one with a leg for a nose – precariously balanced on top of each other, but whatever the subject, everything is rendered in bright, brash colours and strong black outlines. Swimming pools pour out of kitchen cabinets, killer whales flop on countertops, and figures climb through scenes where clouds turn into snow drifts. The effect is a bit like Cartoon Network on psychedelics, and although his work is slightly off-kilter, Andrey has animated music videos and had commissions from Red Bull, Skittles and Interview, as well as a host of smaller publications.
