Moki makes us purr with painted illustrations on wood

Date

Wood is such a pleasant material – really, we should give it more love. Forget metal or plastic all we need is wood, wood, wood. The unpredictable grain, the textures, the changeability of it and of course there’s nothing better than seeing your own gleeful face reflected in a well-polished table.

Embracing my love of this tree-based source is German artist Moki, who’s been painting her lined illustrations onto pieces of wood to form these beautiful, tonal vignettes. Simply using acrylic paint, she creates an ambiguous narrative in each piece, highlighted by the works remaining untitled. As part of BeetoBee collective, Moki has many other strings to her creative (and probably wooden) bow, experimenting with comics, photography, animation and sculpture.
