Bert Löschner transforms the unsung garden chair into charming artworks

Date

Take a moment in your day to gaze in amazement at these fantastically creative transformations of the humble, versatile garden chair. This particular chair design is embedded in our perceptions of garden life, yet hardly registers on our conscious visual radar. I mean, how often do we notice the noble plastic providers of adequate comfort while we chow down on the delights of a summer BBQ?

Enter then Bert Löschner’s and his project Monoblock. Inspired by the unsung hero and its role in design culture, Bert recreates the chairs with heat, shaping them into personalities with as much individual character and charm as the people who usually sit on them so unthinkingly. Some of his recreations do still provide a functionality, some only offer up their glorious message that entwines our perceptions of the subject and object. We salute you Bert – you have made our day with these.
