Got a rad idea for a virtual reality film? MTV wants to hear it!

They say we’ve all got a novel inside us, but from a few pub conversations I’d wager we’ve all got a film in us too. Mine, for instance, is Kim Cattrall’s Chemtrails Tales – the star of Mannequin raconting on chemtrail conspiracy theories. But I digress. To herald the launch of the new Sony film The Walk, which tells the tale of high-wire artist Philippe Petit, who walked between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974, Sony and MTV Breaks are launching a rather special competition that might help take yours from booze-tinted dream to blockbuster reality.

The movie uses no shortage of incredible virtual reality (VR) effects, those mysterious smoke and mirrors that seem so impressive and unknowable. But MTV Breaks, benevolent things that they are, want to show up-and-coming creatives otherwise, giving them the chance to go to LA for a week of training with the Create VR team, getting an insight into what working with VR is all about and getting some hands-on experience with VR cameras, production philosophy and material capture and stitching.

MTV Breaks is looking for people aged 18-26 who dig motion and film (but aren’t professional filmmakers) who are keen to get involved in the week-long, all-expenses trip (why wouldn’t you be?). To enter you need to have a Twitter account, and all you gotta do is Tweet your concept for a virtual reality film, along with a link to your previous work or showreel using both the #MTVBreaks and #ImpossibleDream hashtags. Just don’t steal my chemtrails idea. To find out more information about the competition click here.
