My Name is Wendy creates beautiful posters celebrating French poet Stéphane Mallarmé

Date

My Name is Wendy consistently produces strong, striking and interesting design and this series of posters celebrating the work of Stéphane Mallarmé is no exception to the rule. These four monochrome posters incorporate quotes from the influential symbolist poet’s work into dynamic compositions that see letters scatter across the grid, overlaid by quick forms that resemble a window wiped with a soapy sponge. The broken-up arrangement stays true to Mallarmé who himself played with form and content in his writing, and experimented with how to place and arrange text on the page, the most famous example of which is probably a poem he wrote in 1887, Un coup de dés jamais n’abolira le hasard (“A throw of the dice will never abolish chance”). As ever, My Name is Wendy’s bold and diverse work is as original as it is effective, and although the context behind this particular commission is unclear, if anything, the mystery only adds to its appeal.
