Publication: Lubok move into uncharted waters with a new book from Neo Rauch

Date
21 January 2014

We’ve become accustomed to German publisher Lubok Verlag producing beautifully crafted lino-cut books by a selection of relatively obscure international artists. It’s for this output that we’ve grown to love them; the laborious volumes of print, offering a sense of depth and discovery while simultaneously being aesthetically delightful.

It’s nevertheless exciting to see them moving into new territory. For their latest book they’ve produced a catalogue of paintings by the atoomstijl artist Neo Rauch. The 39 surreal paintings in Gespenster are printed in four colour offset on coated stock, making this the shiniest book that Lubok have ever released. It might not smell as good as their other offerings but it’s an essential addition to any fine art library nonetheless.
