Kicking off our autumn season of Nicer Tuesdays is an inspiring line-up of speakers coming to share their diverse creative experience. Get tickets now to hear from BBC creative director David Bailey on its new typeface BBC Reith; Holly Blakey, director and choreographer to Florence Welch, Mabel and Coldplay; Laura Callaghan, an illustrator renowned for her compelling portraits of powerful women; and illustrator Josh Mckenna will be sharing insight to his recent commissions from Instagram and Google for Pride.

Just to spice things up (and for various reasons too boring to explain) this month’s event will actually take place on a Monday! So be sure to keep that in mind when you purchase.

Buy tickets here for Monday 18 September.

David Bailey is the BBC’s creative director of GEL (global experience language) and UX&D, and will be joining us to talk about its recently launched typeface, BBC Reith. The master-brand typeface was a huge undertaking by the organisation together with foundry Dalton Maag, and forms part of an expansive design and branding push across the BBC. David will be sharing more about the project and insights from his unusual role.

Artist and choreographer Holly Blakey is perhaps most known for her films, both directing and choreographing shorts. She has previously collaborated with the Tate Modern and Mabel, and has choreographic credits on fashion films for Gucci, Dior and Paul Smith. Holly has also worked on numerous music videos, choreographing for Coldplay, Young Fathers and Florence and the Machine and directing for Gwilym Gold, Klyne and Everything Everything. Choreographing live performances is also part of Holly’s practice, her most recent show Some Greater Class opened at London’s Southbank in August with live music from long term collaborators Gwilym Gold and Darkstar, for which she received the Kevin Spacey Artist of Choice for Dance 2017. She’ll be taking us behind her fascinating work.

Illustrator Laura Callaghan needs no introduction to It’s Nice That readers. The Irish, London-based illustrator uses watercolour, Indian ink and isograph pen to create idiosyncratic, vivid and compelling works are instantly recognisable. Laura’s knack for depicting powerful women is what first grabbed the world’s attention, and it’s this subject that came up in a recent commission for Zeit Magazin where she illustrated what Germany would look like if women were in charge. She’ll be telling us more.

Josh McKenna is an illustrator praised for his vector drawings that use a pastel colour palette and curves to the maximum. His sassy style has been commissioned by the Wall Street Journal, Mr Porter and Women’s Wear Daily, to name just a few. Most recently Josh was commissioned to illustrate Pride in a series of Google Stickers and a sticker for Instagram stories. Josh will be talking through these recent commissions, which many of you will undoubtedly recognise.
