Graphic Design: Noncollective's second EP is a bold, hand-screened beauty

Every once in a while a little project comes along that reminds you that digital music is overrated (even if you can carry it everywhere with you) and holding 12 inches of vinyl in your hand is far more satisfying than having a tiny piece of aluminium in your pocket. That sense of physical worth is further compounded when the album art utilises a rich, inky hand-rendered process to decorate it. Dave McFarline’s recent work for Noncollective’s second EP ticks all of those tactile boxes, utilising the hand-screen printing skills of Bob Eight Pop to produce 300 record sleeves that are all unique, thanks to the expert blending of three different inks on the screens. Aside from the vibrant colour, a very minimal use of of Futura finishes the package off with style. It’s an object you’ll be tempted to own even if you’ve no idea what the music’s all about (although it’s excellent, we assure you).
