When mental health issues forced outsider artist John Devlin to cut short his stay in Cambridge and return to Canada, he took his love for the city back across the Atlantic with him. Over 10 years he set about recreating the spirit of the place, producing hundreds of illustrations and sketches re-imagining the city and its famous landmarks. Now published as Nova Cantabrigiensis along with John’s writings and mathematical theories relating to the essence of Cambridge’s architecture, John has created an imaginary utopian island in Nova Scotia where his “perfect city” might be recreated.
