Offset commissions local graduates to design a colourful campaign for its northern event

When Offset was developing its idea for its Sheffield conference, it turned to three local graduates to develop a creative direction that would give the event a distinct preference. Gemma Milne, Andrew Robinson and Aliss Curtis all studied at the Sheffield Institute of the Arts and were flown to Dublin to work with the Offset team to develop ideas. “Based on our feedback a treatment was selected and a list of deliverables was then formulated including traditional six sheets, social media imagery, website integration, publications, clothing, speaker and title motion design and venue dressing,” explains Offset’s creative director Bren Byrne. “Luckily all three had attended Offset in the past so had that experience to inform their minds but we still took them through our history, previous design work and what we were aiming for in Offset Sheffield.”

The team decided to focus on the tools that speakers at the conference use to create and set out to repurpose the objects to depict scenes that could be used across all platforms. “Digital mockups were produced and agreed upon before any of the fun physical production began on building sets and painting the items and arranging the compositions,” explains Bren. “We are a very small team of four and normally would be involved in designing everything in house, so we were still heavily involved in every decision taken. Being both client and art director at the same time was probably a bit of a culture shock for our grad team but we allowed them to drive the project as much as possible. It was a baptism of fire for them at times coming straight out of college into a project like this but their response was great and we hope the experience will stand to them in the future.“

Offset Sheffield runs from the 21-22 October. For more details click here
