Olaf Hajek’s work is the perfect combination of technical ability and narrative smarts. His characters (of which there are many) are folklorish, bound together by colour, tone and texture. Born in north Germany, the illustrator works between his homeland, London and New York, for clients such as the New York Times, Volkswagen and Rolling Stone. His monograph, Flowerhead, was published last year, and may well be worth seeking out.
