Our fifth #ThroughTheEyesOf feature with Ace&Tate with Pat Bradbury

Date
22 August 2014

Here at It’s Nice That we spend an awful lot of time talking about, thinking about and writing about creatives but ultimately we don’t get too many chances to really see what goes on in their day-to-day working lives…until now. Our new collaboration with super-cool eyewear brand Ace & Tate – who believe in great design and ultimate customer choice – is taking us inside the studios, and inside the minds, of a host of some of our favourite creatives.

Over a six-week period, our #ThroughtheEyesOf project will give us an unparalleled insight into how six creatives see the world and how that impacts the way they create work. All six will be producing a bespoke poster themed loosely around “Graduation," and we’ll be getting up close and personal with their progress over on their Instagram accounts before the final pieces are unveiled at an exhibition later this summer.

Next up is illustrator Pat Bradbury…

Could you sum up what you do in a single sentence?

I use drawing, collage and text to create strange and silly pictures.

What do you mainly use Instagram for?

Mainly pics of me hanging out on yachts with babes. No, recently I’ve been using it to show people the happy accidents and silly sketches that can happen during a project but don’t usually get to see the light of day.

When and where did you graduate from? What are your memories of that?

I graduated for the University of Brighton in 2011. I really liked the course as you were encouraged to make personal work about your interests while also experimenting with process and medium. I remember the final year being a huge build up of stress and pressure followed by an amazing month of exhibitions and parties. WOO.

How do you feel about opening up your creative process in this way?

I really like it. I’ve always found that when I visit a friends workspace the art, music and books they surround themselves with gives me a better understanding of the work that they create. In the same way I think instagramming your process and influences gives people further insight to your work and brain.

Give us a clue what we can expect from your artwork?

My piece is inspired by my speedy move to Vietnam after my graduation. Think sunsets, tropical storms and strange fruit.
