1980s-esque popping colours and cuteness that verges on weirdness in Pavel Mishkin's illustration

Moscow-based illustrator Pavel Mishkin’s work is packed with beguiling characters and interesting use of colour. We love the way he makes people come to life with an unusual mix of cartoon eyes and a sensitive, painterly aesthetic; but we’re equally enamoured with the way he describes his projects. The images on his Behance portfolio seem all the more delightful when accompanied with little anecdotal musings: “If you can dance with a doll, you will perfectly dance with anybody,” reads one. The bright, 80s-esque popping colours and the cuteness that verges on weirdness makes for work that manages to convey a whole story in a single frame, whether it’s about the “pure fun” of girls dancing for an unfortunate incident of using the “wrong door to a bathhouse”.
