Philippe Jarrigeon decorates marble saints with the latest fashions

Date
9 January 2013

When we first featured Philippe Jarrigeon’s portfolio of photography we completely fell in love with his high-fashion aesthetic, curiously applied to food photography. We’d never seen anything quite like it and his zesty compositions of vibrant oranges fast earned him a comfortable place in our 2012 Annual.

Since then Phillipe’s practice has drifted into the sublime and surreal, maintaining that same sartorial elegance but applying it to an increasingly varied selection of subjects. In his recent work for Double Magazine he’s lovingly dressed church effigies in the trappings of contemporary fashion, decked out in oversize glasses, garish plastic hats and toting the very finest selection of cosmetics. It’s a mad old collection of images but good lord do we love them.
