Photography: Daniel Naudé has traveled the world taking majestic photographs of cattle

Date

I can’t stop looking at these photos by Daniel Naudé, who has spent the past two years travelling through India, Uganda and Madagascar taking beautiful portraits of cattle in communities where they are still considered sacred. I rarely think of these animals beyond their association with farming, leather and children’s books, yet here they are transformed before my eyes into majestic, heroic creatures adorning the natural landscape.

Using a striking central composition, Daniel elevates each cow’s significance within the frame to the highest order, provoking a genuine sense of awe and adoration. A true visual seduction, which draws comparison to how cattle have been seen for thousands of years in the eyes of those who venerate and worship them. It’s a remarkable project, currently on show at Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town.
