Photography: Qiu Yang and KENZO combine to make some magic happen

Date

Photographer Qiu Yang’s bright, blocky aesthetic lends itself easily to fashion house KENZO, the brand which has been ruling the fashion roost since it was taken over by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon three years ago. The duo resurrected the clashing prints, colours and trademark lion which have been integral to the brand since its inception by Kenzo Takada in 1970, and you can’t walk for more than five minutes these days without spotting a hint of their vibrant colour palette.

With a wealth of experience shooting for COS, Elle, Glamour and others Qiu is equally qualified, and the campaign he has created for KENZO could only come of a match made in an aesthetic heaven such as this. It’s arresting and a bit weird in only the best of ways, with headless bodies swathed in bathrobes and bodiless limbs poking oddly from beneath KENZO sheets. There’s a lion, too. Here’s hoping for more from Qiu and KENZO – a dream team if ever I saw one.
