New York-based director Rajeev Basu has made plenty of curious projects that have kept us occupied for hours at a time, from this video game where your character punches itself in the face to stay awake to this collaborative project in which he invited a bunch of our favourite creatives to imagine what drones might look like once they become legal, so it makes perfect sense that his favourite music video be equally fascinating. And it is – if a little gory (it’s not for the fainthearted). Here he is explaining why he loves it so.

Rajeev Basu: Playing the Villain – Son of Kick directed by The Glue Society

I chose Son of Kick directed by The Glue Society. It’s like the ultimate karma kick in the face to thieving chavs. It’s beautifully shot, I like the realness, and also how graphic it gets – especially in a world that seems so concerned with not offending people or grossing them out. The other thing that’s nice with this is how well the idea works with regards to how limited music video budgets can be these days.  It all happens in such a contained environment, but they use it smartly so it’s interesting from start to finish. Love it. Nicely done.
