Reiner Riedler: Fake Holidays

Date
6 January 2012

Feeling a bit gloomy today, and who can blame us? Here it’s cold in the morning, dark by 4pm and unnecessarily rainy in between. But there’s comfort in solidarity, and apparently we’re not the only ones with an escapism complex. Enter Reiner Riedler, whose photographic documentation of holiday-themed parks around the globe is a bizarre blend of the fantastical and the mundane (and also make us a little bit jealous). Whether it’s a ski-resort in Dubai or a faux-tropical lagoon in Germany, Riedler’s excellent compilation of kitsch locales highlights the disconnect between our desires and our reality. But hey, at least someone’s having fun.
