Architecture: Wowserino! ROK install 22,000 unique wooden sticks in German boutique
Sometimes I come across work that I imagine started life as an impossible idea thrown into a brainstorming session which was in danger of grinding to an awkward halt. That’s how I feel about Swiss firm’s ROK’s work for the MRQT boutique in Stuttgart which features 22,000 unique wooden sticks arrayed on the wall.
“The installation refers to the flowing forms and delicate texture of textiles and cloth,” the architects explain. “It creates a unique and sensational background for the fashion items displayed on the smoothly integrated clothes hangers.”
Which is all well and good, but it means it’s up to us to bellow about how fricking amazing this looks. I can’t begin to imagine how painstaking the planning and installation of this piece was, but ROK sum it up in perhaps the most Swiss sentence I have ever read: “Only a perfectly streamlined production process guaranteed the efficient and feasible realisation of the project.” Quite.
