Sea Design produce a series of stunning books for the irrepressible Monotype

If, like me, you can’t pass a sign, flyer or packaging of any kind without having a good look at the typeface, you might have heard about Pencil to Pixel, an exhibition by Monotype which ran from 16th-23rd November and brought together “the past, present and future of a unique typographic institution.” The award winning brand communications agency Sea were responsible for the graphic identity for the show, but their work for Monotype didn’t stop there.

Collaborating with a host of big names such as Patrick Burgoyne of Creative Review, Rankin and Simon Esterson of Eye, Sea have created Monotype: One Of A Kind, a stylish series of 12 books, each focussing on a unique type specimen and its varied use. This is a collection that understands the heritage of print and the beauty of printed physical objects, while exploring the opportunity and power of the digital realm – a balance that Monotype understand only too well.
