Whether it be our caves, castles or bungalows, we humans tend to decorate our habitats with curious objects that, eventually, become commonplace. What Kürten’s work manages to do is recreate our places of leisure in garish colours and spots, entirely humanless, leaving only the decorative elements adorned to make them seem more appealing. The result? Enormous, delicate, insanely intricate pieces that transport you to a strangely familiar, yet utterly different planet. More proof that the German art scene is the one to watch going into 2012.
