Steve McCurry produces a Pirelli Calendar with a difference for 2013

Date
2 January 2013

I realise we’re a bit slow off the mark on this but as it’s most people’s first day back at work it feels apt to look ahead to 2013 through the prism of the usually predictable Pirelli calendar. But hold the phone because this year’s offering by Steve McCurry has changed things up, as you might expect from a photojournalist better-known for shooting war-torn lands than sun-kissed beauties. Not only are the models in the Rio shoot fully-clothed, they are also socially responsible figures who head up charities helping the local populace. And there’s a striking lack of Rio’s most famous landmarks, all of which adds to the sense that the company’s 40th calendar has really gone out of its way to think about what it is trying to do.
