Graphic Design: Stitch Design Co's elegant identity for a Charleston venue

Date
25 March 2014

No matter how geographical the context, the smallest mention of the city of Charleston in South Carolina immediately calls to my mind a dapper group of 1930s ladies and gents in their best threads, lindy-hoppin’ across a quaint ballroom. A silly notion it may seem, but it’s not so far-removed from the southern city’s self-image, as this identity shows.

Cannon Green is an elegant venue in the city of Charleston, so when Stitch Design Co. were invited to create the identity for it they chose to employ all of the old-worldly glamour so often associated with the area. Their visual concept is heavily influenced by luscious green, hand-painted botanical illustrations to represent the outside part of the venue, while the delicate typeface and stationery infer the subtler chic of the inside. The sway between old and new is a difficult balance to strike, but the studio have succeeded in creating it admirably with this measured concept.
