We’re at an all-or-nothing crossroads: a film so brilliantly outlandish that it will either be amazing, or an embarrassing attempt at avant-guard-ness – we’re going to go with the former. In brief – 15-year-old Rachel, living with her Mormon family in Utah, acquires a rock’n’roll cassette tape and, upon listening to it, immaculately conceives what she believes to be the tape’s singer’s child. Off she trots to Las Vegas to find the father, and the rest is everything you ever wanted from a coming-of-age film: pick-up trucks, skateboarding boys, loud music and lost innocence. Directed by Rebecca Thomas, Electrick Children will show as part of SXSW’s “Emerging Visions.”
