The Carling Family

The Carling Family play jazz – a mix from Dixieland, Chicago, New Orleans to Swing and Bebop and beyond. They play several instruments each, with Gunhild and Max Carling also involved in vaudeville performances. This footage of one of their performances with jazz dancers is something I keep coming back to – apart from a very deep and polite envy of their musical abilities individually and as a family – I’m still finding my feet playing jazz clarinet and trombone – there’s something compulsive about the shapes the dancers make in this one.
