Liquorice allsorts anyone? Feast on these colourful, casted chairs

On first viewing this tasty selection of stools, my immediate reaction was one of “Wow, I really fancy a liquorice allsort”, then my pang of sweet need gave way to pure Wow!

These tasty morsels were created by Lovis Caputo and Sarah Kueng; Swiss designers who have worked together since meeting while studying in Zurich. Beginning their practice with experiments that explored sand and pigment on a small scale, creating objects that would later be nuked in a microwave, the pair have since gone on to develop larger scale projects.

One such project is The Sand Chair Series, which combines colourful pigment with sand and mortel, which is then layered and poured into a casting mold. The final element to the process is to hammer and chisel the massive objects into unique pieces of versatile furniture, capable of being kept in the home or “outside like a real stone”.
