The Weekender: Beer goggles on! it's our fun, weekly round-up The Weekender
What’s been your best ever weekend? Mine was only a few months back when I had pizza on Friday night, then pizza for lunch on Saturday and then pizza again on Saturday evening! Hat trick! We don’t know what the Weekender gets up to on his days off, I imagine his weekend smells of petrol and feels like cheap lace or bananas. Best to leave that stone unturned.
6. Remember what the internet looked like in 1996?
Me neither, luckily the Space Jam website has been preserved in it’s original state to remind us.
5. Hey, how about we make a magazine that’s all about cats and cat lovers?
Oh, someone already did it, and it’s amazing.
4. Hands up if you like cool posters?
Us too! And we love these ones by Jaime Zuverza. Especially the really weird, gross ones.
3. What do you get when you cross the most beautiful woman with the coolest man?
The answer is a very stylish family album. They even make holding a baby look like a fashion statement.
2. One of the best projects EVER!
Can’t believe we only just found out about Clara Bahlsen’s mascot logo collection.
1. And last but not least, a truly jaw-dropping video
It’s also mildly terrifying, but it’s brilliant all the same. Three cheers for Murat Sayginer and his film Ratio.
This week’s mixtape starts off with the first track on The Streets’ debut album which, when things get a bit stressful in the It’s Nice That office, always seems to get played to pump us all up. Maybe it’s because it reminds us of being all razzed up in the sixth form centre. We hope it has the same effect on you. Aside from that this week we’ve got some Roxy Music, some Cat Stevens and some psychedelic spooky stuff to get you in a halloweeny mood. So what are you waiting for? Lock the dial and crank it up!
What a selection this week! Like that year when Santa put new knickers, a box of fudge, a pair of sunglasses and a yo-yo in your stocking. All good items in their own right, but just a strange combination. Anyway, onwards to more important matters.
Catarina Carreiras: Fabrica Mug
United Colors of Benetton have been bringing us great stuff for years now (remember these brilliant advertising campaigns? My point exactly). This time around it’s something a little less profound and little more functional – Fabrica and graphic designer Catarina Carreiras have designed a collection of mugs for United Colors of Benetton. SImple but striking, the collection plays with patterns to jazz up your cup of tea no end.

Ryan Gillett: Guys and Girls
Guys and Girls is a collection of illustrations by the incredible talented Ryan Gillet depicting the trials of, er, being either or a guy or a girl. Lovingly created in his distinctive style you can check out ladies and gents in beer can hats, milking cows, trimming topiary bushes (no other kinds) and bathing in giant champagne glasses. It’s beautifully printed, too, which only serves to make us love him more.

Mark Hix: The Collection
Restaurateur Mark Hix has been taking the British restaurant industry by storm over the last 20 years with a total of six acclaimed restaurants and a heap more experience in some of Britain’s finest establishments. This book includes some of his favourite recipes interspersed with work by illustrators, artists and photographers, so that even if you can’t cook for shit you can gaze lovingly down at his dishes. I’ll just wipe that drool away.

Jess Warby: Illustration
Halloween! It happened this week! And we may not have come springing into the studio dressed as vampires and sexy cats but we did make room for some spooky-ish joy in the form of Jess Warby’s brilliant illustrations. Witches in a Winnebago, vampires in a shared house and Marjory’s Monster Motel serve as a Where’s Wally for gruesomee and hilarious characters in costume, and there’s a load more where that came form over on Jess’s website, below.

Bryce Wilner: Signature Capture
Bryce put a collection of ink drawings through Apple iOS Lion’s built-in iSight Signature Capture feature to see what might come of his artworks, and then documented the results in this cool little book. Often surprising and strangely cool,
the book serves as “a unique insight into how computers read the human gesture”. Best is the orange centre spread which shows process screenshots of him at work. Nice idea well executed, Bryce!
