Your weekly dose of weird stuff and not-to-be-missed content, the It's Nice That Weekender
HELLO FRIENDS! Welcome to the weekend, the two days a week you get to reflect on your busy, expensive, boring life, and then numbing it with booze and barbecues. Hey that sounded pretty pessimistic, I’m sorry. What I really meant was “OH SHIT IT’S THE WEEKEND!” It’s time to swim in a lido, call your best friend, watch Take Me Out in bed, play Candy Crush in a hammock, introduce your dog to your friend’s dog. You name it, it’s yours.
- Would you just check out Leif Podhajsky’s National Geographic collection? Jealous.
- In this week’s podcast we chatted the WIRED redesign, skateboarding kids, ambient video games and the Designs of the Year award.
- Send us anything nice in the post this week? See if it made it into our Things section.
- Very, very cool record label Bella Union made us a mix this week and it is absolutely fantastic.
- In this week’s Opinion piece, Rob Alderson wondered how on earth the excruciating Robin Thicke Twitter Q&A allowed to happen?

This is a re-edit of an old episode of Tracy Beaker, the little girl in a care home. Potentially one of the best things on the internet at the moment.

I’ve loved Angelo Pennetta for ages, I also think Georgia May Jagger looks like a really fun, nice person, and I think Julia Sarr-Jamois is an incredible stylist. Lucky for me, then, that i-D put all three together to make a really happy cocktail of talent. Angelo’s eyes, Georgia’s smile and Julia’s sartorially-minded brain put together is like a really charming and delicious Frankenstein’s monster.

I saw Arcade Fire last night! Every song they played was beautiful and special and magical, and it’s incredible to hear all of the sounds from their four very different albums sown together so exquisitely. I’ve been listening to them since I was 13, and I very much grew up with their songs, with each of the albums puncturing and becoming emblematic of important chapters in my life. So for this Weekender I decided to put together four Arcade Fire music videos, one from each album, so that the magic of last night’s show can trickle into the weekend as well.

I’m not ashamed to admit I have spent some time on Tinder, the swipe-centric dating app that has won so many fans. After a while though the whole experience becomes mindless; where once you might have spent time considering whether you could fall in love with the face on the screen in front of you, you end up just using it as something to do with your fingers (steady). Props then to Tully Arnot whose Lonely Sculpture has captured the Tinder experience in all its glory.
