There’s been a reassuring recent trend for football publications which go beyond the tribal, the boorish and the “LADS LADS LADS” type tubthumping. Pickles is part of this movement and editor Arnold Bernid and creative director Ned Read have done a fine job of engaging over five issues with the beautiful game in an interesting, thought-provoking and nicely-designed way. This latest offering is typically impressive and features a cool cover illustration of Italian icon Andrea Pirlo. Back of the net!

All the way from Philadelphia, we present to you Kurt Vile. His album is packed full of feel good vibes and most definitely the perfect way to kick off your weekend. The vinyl’s front cover is pretty awesome, and the video for ‘Wakin On A Pretty Day’ unveils the making of Stephen Powers’ huge mural. Quite normal that on the back cover Kurt is holding an apple with a smiley face – he knows you want it.

Hurrah for David! His illustrations are so fab and with no short supply of the weird and wonderful – various types of blob heads, aliens and Pinocchios. Not forgetting the lovely envelope it came in, which, of course, includes more blob people.

Akissi is a little girl who gets up to nuisance, and this delightful collection of illustrations is about her rascal ways, and with her monkey Boubou, there’s no telling what they may do next. It also includes a recipe for coconut goat’s droppings – just your standard snack.

Ever wondered what a Topsy Turvy World would look like? Well look no further, these hilarious illustrations include how to put out water with fire, giant insects against tiny lions and a human circus. Be sure to look out for the little Mickey Mouse on every page – oh you little critter!

As a specs wearer I found it a little difficult to get the full effect (two glasses at once don’t work, which is why I never go to 3D films). But that aside, Mike’s detailed illustrations tell an incomprensible story influenced by Mesoamerican folklore. Hand silk-screened, the time gone into creating this zine is incredible!
