Things

Our weekly review of all things Things, that is to say Mexican food from Bless Design and an ingenious sketchbook by Magma. Plus a delightful publication called Stadium Paris, an AtoZ according to Anne Marie Jones and the twentieth anniversary of Fourth Floor. Aces.

Alphabet Anne Marie Jones

A very lovely little book compiled digitally but from some more humble, painterly origins. A time-tested illustration brief of A (for apricots) to Z (the classic zebra), bound together with many a colour, wonderful handwriting and a magnificent iguana.

Cool Chile Co. Bless Design

Our favourite seasonal gifts from Bless (wooly hat, frisbee etc) have taken a culinary turn in the shape of chile piquín, habanero hot sauce and cowboy beans, to name but a few of the unexpected ingredients to arrive this week. Not only do we love the identity – a cool, clean and excellently versatile badge that has its own Mexican flavour (no pun intended) – but we love Mexican food. Yay! Bless Design!

Stadium Paris: The Round House Art Director, Leslie David

A typically excellent design for a Nike publication, but with more feminity and quirky content then you’d normally expect from the super-stylised sports brand. Some truly lovely and imaginative shoots, curated in a colour filled and playfully geometric grid. Also, many surfers, BMX-ers and skaters star here, worth the photography alone!

Twenty Years of Fourth Floor Fourth Floor

To celebrate twenty years of coiffured excellence. boutique salon 4th Floor has commissioned this charming volume, showcasing the studio’s meticulous ethos that extends from the design of their salon to the manufacture of their products. With ruminations on the WC1 area by Jon Snow, recipes from Nigel Slater and Tom Dixon’s furniture designs all included within the book’s 150 pages, there’s plenty to entice even those of us that fail to regularly invest in the state of our tresses.

Magma Sketchbook Laurence King

If exposure to stationery cupboards reduces you to a salivating mess and the smell of fresh ink leaves you weak-kneed with excitement, then Laurence King’s new Studio8-designed sketchbook is for you. Taking the finest aspects of the ubiquitous Moleskine and adding a section of graph paper, anatomical drawing references and three (yes three) different coloured bookmark ribbons, they’ve created the most lust-worthy empty book we’ve ever laid eyes on. If you don’t get it you don’t get it.
