Things is here showing off its brains, brawn and beauty all at once

Date
18 August 2012

This one time at It’s Nice That, nothing came in the post so we had to make up Things using our own cruddy possessions and pass them off as artistic objects. Kidding! That never happened, you’d know if it did. Luckily enough great stuff comes through our door every day that we don’t need to resort to that, and this week is no exception. Cue a particularly cool atheistic clothing label, an enviable MA catalogue, some great comic strips, new music and French delights…

Staycations – Kotki Dwa

Lovely piece of album artwork here for Staycations by Kotki Dwa. As well as being a really quite uplifting, summer-synth album musically, the artwork is really a fine example of what many (perhaps more on the twee-side) musicians are now doing in order to keep the CD alive – get some tangible, drool-inducing artwork for it that music nerds are going to want to give their girlfriends.

As far as atheistic clothing goes…well, hang on, has there ever even been atheistic clothing before? Who knows, but this new collection by famed illustrators and long-term pals Dominic Owen and Jasper Dunk indicates that perhaps we should be wearing our theistic opinions on our sleeves a little more than we do right now. Dagger through a bible? yeah i’ll wear that on my back. Check out the rest of the collection on their very aesthetically pleasing website and online store.

Frank Mohr International Masters Catalogue

Has there ever been such a beautiful, fair representation of a seemingly very talented bunch of students than this publication from Frank Mohr International? I sincerely doubt it. With a perfect consistency throughout, this well-designed catalogue not only showcases the students’ work as completely equal to each other but also highlights the similarities in their work which indicates one thing and one thing only – friendship! Brilliant.

Feuilleton Numero 4

Difficult to speak about this meticulously designed publication entitled “Feuilleton” (if you’re not French, try and pronounce that in real life) – but I can confirm that its pages are filled with stories, illustrations and reviews that reiterate the fact that the French always know what’s going on culturally. The fact that these articles on Formula 1 and short stories are illustrated by some really talented people just adds to the appeal – this is one of those publications that’s not just a magazine, it’s a collectible.

Steve Tillotson – Christopher Wren

If you’re already into Jeffrey Brown or if you know a kid that hasn’t yet discovered the magnificent and delicious depressing state that Chris Ware’s strips can leave you in, then perhaps Steve Tillotson is a good place to start. Dry, sweet and simple – this is a fold-out publication that represents the very basic pillars of comic books – one character philosophically analysing their habit of getting stuck in humorous situations to the joy of the reader. Thanks Steve!
