Thomas Brown: Meteor

Date
20 January 2012

As a species, mankind can be preoccupied with its own imminent destruction. Newspapers revel in their role as harbingers of doom, seemingly delighting in any apparent apocalypse heading our way (remember the Millennium Bug?!) and countless internet pages are devoted to this cult of catastrophe, whether it’s the Mayan calendar or Nostradamus’ gloomy predictions. Photographer Thomas Brown has run with this idea, shaping meaningless scraps of paper into haunting, organic meteor forms, made up merely of our own fears. “I wanted to show there is no point dwelling on thing beyond our control,” he said. “Don’t worry, be happy.” Amen to that.
