Tim Blann's deliciously effortless illustrations are an autumnal delight

Date

Within Tim Blann’s Instagram bio, the artist writes “trying to draw” – a contradictory statement compared to his painted delights which appear deliciously effortless.

Tim is an artist who appears to enjoy dipping his toes in various illustrative pools. His work ranges from swift ballpoint drawings to layered paintings or screen prints.

These paintings, veiled in an autumnal colour palette of mustard yellows and velvet pinks, is where Tim differentiates himself from other illustrators, with an ability to convey an expression in just the silhouette of a drawn figure. On the other hand, the illustrator’s capability to represent varied human expression is also impressive. Tim has an aptitude for representing the lesser considered appearances, confused faces or the not-quite-angry, just-a-bit-miffed scrunched up face.

As the illustrator experiments with creating album artwork and longer form narratives such as comics we look forward to seeing how Tim’s flair will develop.
