“I want to put him on a cracker and feed him to the world”: hilarious new fashion short from Mercedes

A superb and beard-laden riposte to anyone that feels that “fashion” and “humour” are mutually exclusive, this hilarious new short shows what working in the industry would be like if a creative’s assistant was a small, puppet version of themselves.

Directed by LA-based filmmaker Toben Seymour, the film forms part of Mercedes-Benz’ series Fashion Creatives. The spotlight is on “fashion’s leading sound designer” Michel Gaubert, who has produced soundtracks for the likes of Raf Simons, Jonathan Anderson, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Jeremy Scott, Celine and Karl Lagerfeld. With his ever-hectic schedule, he brings a strange little assistant on board in the form of Petit Michel – an almost exact replica of his boss, but in miniature, and made entirely of fabric.

We see what they get up to day to day: speaking to some Venice Beach honeys, knocking up a few remixes, cruising about in a Mercedes-Benz 1970 280SEL. Viktor Yerrid, who works for Muppets creators Jim Henson Company, was brought on as the puppeteer for the film.

It’s a genuinely funny little short, with brilliant, on-point dialogue that proves, if ever it still needed proving, that the fashion world isn’t all about being po-faced. As with the other films in the series, it proves it to be an industry unafraid to laugh at itself. We won’t ruin the narrative by giving too much away, but safe to say it won’t disappoint, ending on Petit Michel declaring of his boss: “I want to put him on a cracker and feed him to the world.”
