Tom Cockram's photographs of Brazil’s street culture in the lead up to last year’s World Cup

Date
2 October 2015

Rather than taking a break whilst on a trip to Brazil, photographer Tom Cockram took it as an opportunity to shoot the street culture and rising excitement for last year’s football World Cup. Part of an ongoing personal project, Ladies & Gentlemen , the portraits are of characters met whilst travelling, for both work and pleasure.

This series from Recife captures the sun-drenched townscape; choppy, shark-infested water and saturated pigment of the plant life, crumbling buildings and fabrics in the small town of Olinda. Tom maintains his approach on each visit, “searching the streets and neighbourhoods for people with vivid personalities and using the natural environment to tell tales of each location.”

Based between London and Manchester, Tom shoots for Monocle, Nike and clothing brand Amore Lux, as well as our very own Printed Pages .
